Norman W. Rowe, 81, of Argenta, IL passed away at 12:10 a.m. on Friday (Nov. 5, 2010) in his residence.
A service to celebrate Norman’s life will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 9, 2010) at Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Monday with a Masonic Rites service at 4:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta with military rites provided by the Macon County Honor Guard. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.dawson-wikoff.com.
Mr. Rowe was born on April 17, 1929 in Macon County, IL, the son of John W. and Ruth I. (Hinkle) Rowe. He served proudly as a military policeman and saw action in the U.S. Army with the 7th Infantry Division during the Korean War from 1951-1952. Upon his discharge from the Korean War, Norman drove a truck for Scherer Freightlines and then continued his lifelong passion of farming. He was a 45 year member of the Masonic Lodge #871 of Argenta and was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. Norman found pleasure in antique car and tractor collecting. He married C. Joanne Turner on March 15, 1953. She preceded him in death in 1972.
Surviving are his daughters: Mary Lou (Mark) Holmer of Argenta, IL, Norma Jo (Doug) Davidson of Decatur, IL and Sue E. (Kim) Smith of Argenta, IL; grandchildren: Holly (Chad) McFadin, Eric (Renee) Briggs, Karla (Joey) Samuelson, Kevin Briggs, Ashley Smith and Amanda Smith; step-grandchildren: Jonathan Davidson, Kelby Smith and Kaleb Smith; two great grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; special friends: Patsy Doty of Decatur, IL and Clyde Hornback of Argenta, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother: Hugh Rowe, sister: Florence Dent and his beloved dog: Betsy.
Thank you to our loving friends and family members who prayed and blessed us in many ways. Our dad will forever be remembered as a loving son, father, grandfather, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend. He is now at home with our Heavenly Father. A special thank you to St. John’s Hospice for all their care and the compassion they have shown.

To our dear friend Norman, we will miss you here on earth. The heavenly gates have welcomed a wonderful man and will eternally be the life of the party. We will deeply miss your wonderful smiles, the happiness you shared with us and others, and those funny jokes that only you could tell with such meaning and seriousness.
